- SUBJ: Star Wars is Solution to North Korea's Nuclear Possession
-
-
- RONALD REAGAN'S STRATEGIC BRILLIANCE RE: S.D.I.
-
-
- The Clinton administration is all upset about what to do regarding
- North Korea's possession of nuclear weapons. Those of us who
- supported and/or worked in the Strategic Defense Initiative nuclear
- intercept program realized that offensive weapons are less and less
- a deterrent to war, since any nation can make nuclear weapons.
- Diplomacy has also shown its impotence in dealing with the problem,
- except to give us a false sense of having placated a bully - a
- condition which represents unstable equilibrium at best. (An
- illustration of unstable equilibrium is: trying to balance a pyramid
- on its point.)
-
- Luckily, we had a President in the 80's who, being unfettered by
- buzz-word-mania (political correctness), was futuristic enough to
- envision a scenario whereby a technologically advanced defense
- would be our salvation. That notion proved to be correct in the
- Gulf War, where we saw first-hand the advantages of technological
- superiority. Unfortunately, the liberals have all but scuttled the
- SDI ("Star-Wars") project, because of their belief that the world
- runs similar to a court of law. What else would you expect of a
- bunch of lawyers (over half our politicians are lawyers)? To them,
- everything can be plea-bargained! Reagan realized the truth,
- however, which is that you've got to defend yourself. Because
- liberals are such techno-idiots, and because most of them have gone
- to college to "study" philosophy, political science, sociology, or
- some other diddly-simple "basket-weaving" subject, they are
- suspicious of technology. As an engineer-scientist, I am always
- horrified by their backwardness. I would like to suggest to the
- Clinton administration, to Congress, and to the Department of
- State, that the SDI deserves a much closer look. Does anyone have
- a better idea?
